Press-Fit Technology

Press-Fit Technology
for PCB Connections.

Press-fit technology provides reliable, repeatable and solderless PCB connections by pressing compliant terminals into plated through-holes. The result is a robust electrical and mechanical connection for demanding electronic assemblies.

Why Press-Fit
Press-Fit Technology.
More Than a Connection Method.

Press-fit technology creates a mechanical and electrical connection directly between the terminal and the plated through-hole in the PCB — without soldering.

The controlled interference fit provides a repeatable connection while eliminating soldering from the assembly process. This can simplify production and avoid thermal stress associated with soldering large terminals or high-current connections.

For demanding electronic assemblies, the result is a compact connection concept suited to applications where process consistency, mechanical stability and long-term electrical performance are important.

Why Press-Fit

Press-Fit Technology for
Reliable Electronic Assemblies

01

Solderless Assembly

Press-fit terminals create the electrical connection directly in the plated through-hole, removing the soldering step from the connection process.

02

Repeatable Process

A controlled mechanical interface supports consistent insertion and repeatable press-fit connections in serial PCB production.

03

Mechanical Stability

The press-fit connection provides a robust mechanical interface suited to electronic assemblies exposed to demanding operating conditions.

04

High-Current Connections

Press-fit technology can be used for compact power connections where larger terminals and higher electrical loads need to be integrated directly with the PCB.

Engineering the Interface

Press-Fit Technology.
From Terminal to PCB.

A reliable PCB press-fit connection depends on the complete interface between terminal, plated through-hole and assembly process. The connection needs to be defined around both the electrical requirements and the mechanical design of the application.

Terminal Contact geometry and terminal dimensions are selected around the required electrical and mechanical interface.
PCB Hole The plated through-hole is specified together with the press-fit terminal to create the required interference fit.
PCB Plating Hole plating and PCB construction are part of the connection system and must be considered together with the terminal.
Insertion The assembly process is designed around controlled insertion to support consistent production results.
Application Current, mechanical loads, vibration, environment and production requirements determine the final solution.
Where Press-Fit Fits

Press-Fit Technology.
Different Connection Needs.

01

Power Connections

Press-fit terminals can provide compact PCB interfaces for power distribution and higher-current connections without introducing an additional soldering process.

02

Signal Connections

Press-fit connections can also be used for signal and control interfaces where repeatable electrical contact and robust PCB integration are required.

03

PCB-to-System Integration

Terminals and connector interfaces can become part of the complete assembly concept, linking the PCB directly to the wider electrical system.
